50+ Land Classes...

Whether you’re active and fit, returning to or new toexercise, your YMCA Staff is here to support you every step of the way. Classes designed with your needs, comfort, safety and enjoyment as our priorities.You don’t need to sign up in advance, just come to class when you are ready. If you have any questions please ask one of our staff.  

50+ Strength & Stretch: (Movement Center)  
Progressive exercises to stretch and strengthen all major muscle groups and promote balance. Then, move into the Health & Wellness Center and learn to use circuit machines to enhance individual’s specific condition.

MWF 12:00 - 1:30 and TTH 10:30 - 12:00

 

50+ Aerobics: (Movement Center)
Step it up a little with 45 minutes of low impact aerobics to condition your healthy heart. End class with 45 minutes of strength, flexibility, balance and postural exercises.

MWF 10:30 - 12:00

50+ Tai Chi: (Movement Center)
The art of creating energy, designed especially for you! Learn at a speed that is suited to your needs. Enhances balance, mind and spirit!

MW 8:00 - 9:00 (This is a fee based class.)

 

50+ Gentle Yoga: (Meading Room)
Experience gentle stretch, increased range of motion, deep breathing and balance work. Excellent for beginners.

50+ Water Classes...

These classes, for older adults, focus on targeting functional fitness for all activities of daily living. All participants are treated as special individuals in an environment of aquatic support. Our staff prides itself on getting to know personally everyone of are participants. It is this personal touch that elevates our active older adult classes.   Join us, you will be amazed at the difference it will make!

 

50+ H2O Aerobics: (Lap pool)
Join the group that likes to chat almost as much as they like to exercise. MWF 9:00 - 9:45  

Keep Moving: (Instructional pool)  Exercises are designed to improve flexibility and overall fitness with  minimal stress to joints. An ideal work-out for those with arthritis or as a compliment to a physical therapy program. MWF 11:30 - 12:30  

Arthritis Fitness: (Instructional Pool) This program is designed and certified by the National Arthritis Foundation. This class is taught in our warm water pool and provides joint rotation and gentle stretching.The instructors for this class are certified by the national arthritis foundation. TTH 11:30 - 12:15  

Circle Swim: (Lap Pool) Lap swimming without the lanes. Swim in a clockwise circle around the perimeter of the pool or aqua jog and stretch in the middle. A slower paced time in the pool for you and the classic  music is always soothing. M-F 10:30 - 11:30 S/S 12 - 1

Senior Fitness Test & Personal Training:

Each member, 60 years and older, gets one free senior fitness test and personal training when they join. Our Senior Fitness Test was developed and scientifically validated through research at the Ruby Gerontology Center at California State University, Fullerton, and will be administered by a trained YMCA Wellness Coach.  The test battery is designed to assess ones physical parameters associated with functional mobility (strength, endurance, flexibility, balance and agility).  The following is a list of test items that we can perform:

 Chair Stand Test (number of stands from a chair in 30 seconds)

 Arm Curl Test (number of curls in 30 seconds; 5-lb. weight for women, 8-lb. weight for men)

 6- Minute Walk Test (number of yards walked in 6 minutes – person can rest when necessary)

bullet

 2-Minute Step Test (number of steps completed in 2 minutes)

bullet

 Chair Sit-and-Reach Test (distance one can reach forward toward toes)

bullet

 Back Scratch Test (how far hands can reach behind the back)

bullet

 8-Foot Up-and-Go Test (time required to get up from a chair, walk 8 ft., and return to chair)

 Height, weight, resting blood pressure and body max index.

** Note you will be doing only one of the cardio options listed above, either the 6 Minute Walk Test (if you are participating in a group test) or the 2-Minute Step Test (if you are getting individually tested).

**If you would like a re-evaluation (fitness evaluation or senior fitness test), the cost is only $10.
