The Saturday Men's Mixer will go until 9:30 and the Women's Mixer will start at 10:00, so everyone can enjoy breakfast from 9:30 - 10:00am

Spring Clean Up...unloading bark

Thirty three folks spent their Saturday at the YMCA Tennis Center, cleaning, painting, dusting, organizing, weeding, mulching, and generally making an amazing difference at our Tennis Center. Thank you so much to everyone who helped. Please check out our web site for pictures of some of the hard workers.

Did you miss out on the Spring Clean Up and Round Robin? No worries, we are already planning the next adventure. We'll keep you posted.

Sunday Super Sessions...

Meet new people, learn new things, have some fun. This is the focus of our monthly Sunday Super Sessions. Once a month we will be offering a new class, a mini tournament or a skill clinic. Here's the line up for our upcoming Sunday Super Sessions.

April... Cardio Tennis with Alex
Sunday the 26th
Beginning 1:30 - 2:45
Intermediate/Adv. 2:45 - 4

Cardio tennis is a new fun way to practice and play tennis. It is for players of all ages and levels, looking to burn calories or to simply get in shape.
We'll offering two classes for you to choose from: so, whether you are a beginner or an existing player, there is a class for you.

Each group includes a warm up, cardio work out and a cool down phase.  The drills we use are design to give you a high energy workout while you improve your skills and knowledge in tennis.

Please sign up with staff at the desk by Tuesday, April 21st . Questions? Please contact Alex.

May...More than the Basics with Dominika and Niles
Sunday, May 3rd
10-1 (We'll break for 30 minutes, so please bring a snack or lunch.)

This 3 hour clinic is for mid to high level players (4.0 and up). We'll cover more than just the basics! If you're wanting to learn more about tennis than just how to do things, and more of WHY do we do things, then this clinic is for you. We will cover strategy, technique, and mental toughness. Working on the subtleties of the game of tennis while also taking a peek at your overall swing structure will help you reach that level of tennis you've been striving for.

You helped Make the Difference...

Thank you! We did it! We reached and surpassed our Strong Kids Campaign 2009 goal of 30,000, with a fabulous $31,747 to designate to YMCA Youth Scholarships in 2009.  It is with sincere appreciation that we recognize each and every one of you who helped us reach this goal this year. We recognize that the decision to give generously is a choice that you make amongst so many other financial choices—and this year we know how much more weight that choice carried for many of you.  Please know that your kindness is deeply appreciated by the YMCA, by the families we serve and, in their own way, by the kids who are here every day—safe, engaged, and cared for—thanks to you!   Together, we are building strong kids, strong families and a strong community… THANK YOU!

Did you know? Your YMCA allocated $466,750 in financial assistance to youth and families in 2008.  We know that 2009 will see even greater need for support. We are proud to partner with you to make our community this one half million dollars richer in services and programs that build strong kids, strong families and strong communities!

Connie's Corner...

The USTA season is well on its way and the YMCA is doing well in the standings.  The standings to date are the following:

  1.  Richard Clark’s 3.0 team is in second place; 2. Kim Hernandez’s 3.0 team is in seventh place; 3. Mike Sevart’s 3.5 team is in second place; 4. Connie Clark’s 3.5 team is in third place; 5.  Sue Fleming’s 3.5 team is in fourth place; and Roger Schaljo’s 4.0 team is in third place.  Most teams are just getting into their league play and the ratings will be changing often.

I suspect teams might still be looking for players and feel free to contact someone at the tennis center for captains’ names and phone numbers.  USTA is a great place to have competitive matches and make new friends in Southern Oregon.  Have fun on the court.

Summer Camp Sign Up...

Yes, it's that time already! Summer Camp Sign up starts April 23. On April 23 and 24 there will be staff at the Main Reception Center from 8:00am - 7:00pm, to help get your child signed up for a whole summer of fun. If you sign up on those days, you'll get $10 off each camp session you pay for, in full.

After these 2 days, sign up will continue until camps are full. After the first two days, you'll be able to sign up for Tennis Camps at the Main Reception Center or at the Tennis Center desk. (The first two days, sign up will only happen at the Main Reception Center.) All other camps must be signed up for at the Main Reception Center.

All camps, except for Tennis Camps, are on-line at www.eugeneymca.org

Tennis Camps information will be available by April 17th.

Racquet Rack...

A huge thank you to Ed Petrone, for the beautiful racquet rack! If you want to check it out, it is in the Tennis Center office. It will hold all the different racquets we have in the office. What a great help! Thanks Ed!
