THANK YOU AND FAREWELL

It is with a bit of sadness, for our Y, that I announce Darryl Wisner has taken the Head Pro position at Eugene Swim and Tennis Center. We'll miss Darryl, but we are also very excited for him! Darryl has been a great mentor, leader, friend to me—and all of us at the Y. When you see him again, be sure to give him a hug and a thank you. Wish him well on his new adventure!

We will be working on the staffing schedule at the Tennis Center—I’ll keep you updated as to what is going on.

Take care Darryl!  Have fun!

SEHS & Y Tennis Doubles Mixer & Fundraiser

Team up for some doubles fun with the members of the South Eugene Tennis Teams.

What better way to have some fun, support youth in our community and play some great tennis? We’ll alternate between doubles bump games, and keeping score in a tournament format.  (How involved the tournament "draws" are will depend on the number of teams.)

All members of the South Eugene Girls and Boys Tennis teams will be there, and you’ll be able to play with and against them!

Friday, November 18th from
5:30 – 6:45 & 6:45 - 8:00 pm!
This will take the place of 4.0 Mixer.
Two sessions, so sign up for which ever time works best for you! Suggested donation is $10 for some fun and friendly competition and a great cause!
All money will go to the SEHS Teams and Eugene Family YMCA Youth Scholarships.

Sign up at the Tennis Center by Wednesday, November 16th. Questions, please ask!

BE IN THE KNOW

Diabetes Prevention
One out of every three Americans will be diabetic by 2050.
Are you one of them? You don’t have to be. You can take control now.
“I've made many changes in my eating habits since starting the YMCA’s Diabetes Prevention Program. I snack less often. My portions are smaller. I'm eating more vegetables. It is good to know that I don't have to be perfect, and I can still reduce my risk. Being in a program that works makes the cravings manageable.”

Out of Sight, Out of Mind
Please make sure you pick up all the balls before you leave your court. Even behind the curtains! This helps keep our balls in better condition and makes the Tennis Center safer for everyone.

Proud Card Carrying Member Please make sure you bring your card each time you visit us. This is our way of ensuring that everyone is a member and it helps us be aware of who is in the building.

Options Galore Remember, we have a lot of options for you to improve your game, meet more people, have more fun. Check out lessons, mixers and maybe even video tape a match or lesson. Just ask one of us and and we'll be happy to help.

DIVISION 1, HERE SHE COMES!

The Eugene Y’s own Ellie Grossman recently signed her Letter of Intent to play division 1 tennis at Southern Miss University. She is receiving a full ride scholarship to play tennis for the Golden Eagles of Southern Miss.

In the last nine years there have onlyy been 2 other Eugene players to receive a division one tennis scholarship. Ellie's personal coach and Y Tennis Pro, Mike Kingsley was one of them.

We are all very proud of Ellie and her accomplishments in tennis. In December Ellie will be returning to the Y from the John Newcombe Tennis Academy. Please tell her congratulations and wish her good luck on her upcoming college tennis!

CONNIE'S CORNER

The senior and super senior USTA season comes to an end the 27th of November.  Currently The men’s senior 3.0 team and super senior 6.0 team are already going to sectionals.  The women’s super senior 6.0 team has already secured a wildcard to go to sectionals as well.  The other teams are still playing, but possibly the women’s 3.5 senior team will be in playoffs December 10 and 11 at ESTC.  The mixed doubles senior leagues are forming and will begin playing in January.  There are 6.0 and 7.0 mixed double senior teams.  If you are interested in playing on a team, please leave your name at the YMCA desk, and it will get to the captains of these teams.  The adult league begins in March.  This is the last season for senior and super seniors; in 2013 it will be 55+ running in the fall at the 6.0, 7.0, and 8.0 levels.  Also, the league will see two adult leagues running.  The 18 to 40 league will probably run in the summer and the 40 to 55  league will run in the spring.  If you are interested in this new restructuring plan go to the Pacific Northwest USTA web site and read about it.  Finally, the year-end ratings will be out mid-November.

New TAC Members

Before I introduce our new TAC (Tennis Advisory Council) members, I'd like to thank the members of committee who's terms have ended. Jerry Trapp, Dave Thomas and Alan Schwake have been a important part of our TAC. All three have given their time and energy, not just to make the the Tennis Center better, but to make the Y better. With their care, both things were accomplished. Thank you to both of you for all your work.

Our newest members include Diane Robison and Jacob Kranitz. Jacob is our Teen TAC member! Thanks to you both for your willingness to help make our Y and our Tennis Center even better.

Other members of the TAC include Susan Heisey, Dick Clark, Bill Flinn, Karen Ziros-Smith, Saylor Smith, and Esther Celis.

Thanks to all of you for the difference you make.
