YMCA Tennis Camps (ages 5-18)
The YMCA Jr. Tennis program is all about fun, friends, fitness and learning this lifetime sport! It’s easy at your Eugene Family YMCA. Whether you’re attempting to hit your first forehand, play your first game, or prepare for a tournament, you’ll get what you need and have fun in these camps. (If you are under 6, over 12 or a more advanced player, ask about our summer, afternoon group lessons.
Beginner:
This is a great place for many young people to learn the basic fundamentals of the game. The goal is to be able to rally from the short court and from full court ten times in a row in order to advance to the next level.
Intermediate:
Core concepts are stressed such as correct techniques in ground strokes, volleys, servers, overheads, and specialty shots such as drop shots and lobs. Tennis strategy and point construction is introduced. This class is designed to be fun and interactive.

The First Tee (Youth Golf) (ages 7-17)
Life skills such as goal-setting and problem-solving are combined with Nine Core Character Values (i.e. perseverance, judgement, integrity, etc.) and woven into the game of golf to create an incredible experience for kids ages 7-17. Have fun learning to play a life sport while building leadership and life skills!
PLAYer/PAR
Tee It Up! After going over the basics of putting, pitching, and chipping we put the PLAYers out on Short Ridge to let them discover what they do well and where practice is needed. Showing respect for others and confidence-building is a big focus.
PAR
Here we continue building confidence through Meeting and Greeting others while using A-L-R (Ask Listen Respond). We also cover respecting the rules, ways to keep your cool, and having fun while learning something new.
Birdie
We’re taking TFT PLAYers to the next level by positively stating Goals and Dreams that are important to them and helping them decide which goal or dream is “realistic” both on and off the golf course. The focus here: the journey (process) is as important as the destination (outcome) – and how to have fun on the journey.
Parent Class
Curious about what your First Tee child is learning? Want to sharpen your own golf skills? This is the class for you. We use the same language and introduce the same skills so you’re on the “same page” as your kids.
Open Skills
Free session, open to all participants currently enrolled. This is “extra swing time” for PLAYers looking to improve their game. Same rules apply regarding starting on-time, respecting others while building confidence and learning how much fun golf is.
Cost: $100/ session; $90/ session for YMCA members.
Sessions take place at The NiNes at RiverRidge Golf Course, who generously donate the use of their facilities to The First Tee of Willamette Valley to provide our participants with an extraordinary golf experience.
