Jr.  Lessons
We have specialized programs for youth ages 4-18.
The YMCA Jr. Tennis program is all about fun, friends, fitness and learning this lifetime sport! Whether you’re attempting to hit your first forehand, playing your first match, or preparing for a tournament, we have the class for you. Take a look at the programs we offer, and see which feels like the right fit. If you have questions or comments, please just ask!

Registration and payment is required before 1st day of class. If  there is space, you can register and pay on the first day of class. However, payment is due at registration.

10 and Under Tennis

It’s a whole new ball game for kids tennis! With equipment and courts tailored to suit their needs and abilities, kids will feel confident as soon as they pick up a racquet. Using the QuickStart Tennis format allows kids to rally back and forth over the net right away and enjoy the game right from the start.

Class Bonus: All current lesson participants are invited to our Jr. Play time on Fridays, for free. This time is set aside to give our youth players an opportunity to get more play experience. Participants will play matches and get coaching on match strategy.  See current schedule.

QS 1  M/W 3:15-4
For children ages 4-6. 

A fun, engaging program to teach the fundamentals of tennis including; Hand-Eye Coordination, Back and Forehand Strokes, simple games where points are scored, cooperative activities, basic rules, care of equipment, and sportsmanship.

We will use 36’ courts, foam or red balls & 17” to 21” racquets.

QS 2   M/W 3:15-4
For children ages 6-8.

Children will continue to improve on the form taught in QS 1. Players will also begin to learn: basic rules of the game, to keep score, make shot decisions, basic tenets of doubles and continue developing sportsmanship.


We will use 36’or 60’ courts, foam or orange balls &19”to 23” racquets.

QS 3  M/W 3:15-4
For children ages 6-10. 

Children will continue to develop what they learned in QS 2 while spending more time learning to: play and apply the rules of individual or doubles play, practice, encourage and support others, and continue their development of being a good sport.

We will use 60’ courts, orange or green balls & 23”to25” racquets.

Tennis Strategies 1
T/Th 3:30-4:30pm

(Beg.- Intermediate) 10-18 yrs

This class is designed to be fun and interactive, all while meeting the current needs of the player. We'll teach core concepts, such as correct techniques in ground strokes, volleys, serves, overheads, and specialty shots such as drop shots and lobs.  Tennis strategy and point construction is introduced and well as sportsmanship and integrity on the court.

This class focuses on the fundamentals of match play, having fun and making friends.  Students will learn the importance of each point and be given strategies to develop their natural skills in both singles and doubles match play. Good sportsmanship and encouragement of others is expected.

Jr. Lessons Performance Program

Finding a sport you love and wanting to excel at, is a powerful feeling. Our Performance Program is designed for those young serious tennis players who have found their sport and shows the skills, determination, developmental attributes and sportsmanship to be a impact player. Class time is spent on developing strengths, improving conditioning, improving movement, and maximizing focus and creating an environment where everyone can achieve their potential.
Our Performance Program is by invitation only.
Please check with one of our coaches to talk about your players involvement.

There will be intensive workouts with singles and doubles strategies and mental toughness for match play scenarios.   Players must have instructor consent before registration. Good sportsmanship and encouragement of others is expected.

High School Player

This class is reserved for players on high school varsity teams
and younger players with USTA rankings and instructor consent. In a fun and enthusiastic environment we offer this highly competitive class with an emphasis on point play and tournament preparation. Being a positive role model for younger players is very important in this class.

Private lessons or semi-private lessons are available from our USPTA certified Tennis Professionals as well as Instructors. Private lesson times and fees are arranged on an individual basis. Please see our teaching staff for more information.

 

Adult Lessons

At the Eugene Family YMCA Tennis Center we create a fun filled learning environment where your success and enjoyment is guaranteed.  You will learn all of the basic strokes needed to play the game of tennis, as well as how to keep score and simple strategies for both singles and doubles.

Free for members and those currently enrolled in lessons.

*Community Membership is a $40 annual fee for youth under 15 years of age. This entitles these youth to a discount on programs such as lessons and camps. It does not provide use of the facility
