Understanding Your Hearing Devices and the Tools That Help You Hear Well—Everywhere
Hearing aids are powerful tools, but they don't solve every listening challenge on their own. In this interactive and supportive session, participants will learn about the real-world limitations of hearing devices—and, more importantly, the additional tools and strategies available to help get the maximum benefit from them.
Grounded in the Y's commitment to Healthy Living and lifelong well-being, this presentation will explore the importance of addressing hearing loss early as part of overall brain health. We'll discuss practical self-advocacy strategies, everyday communication tips, and a range of assistive listening options—including hearing loops and other technologies that can improve access in many environments.
Participants will also have the opportunity to share their own hearing challenges in a welcoming group setting, connecting with others who may be navigating similar experiences. This session is designed to empower individuals to better understand their hearing, confidently advocate for their needs, and feel supported along the way.
This is a free, one-time Y-hosted educational offering. Participants interested in a deeper dive into hearing loops will be invited to explore future Sound Advice sessions at the Shedd. If interest is strong, we may explore additional offerings in the future.
