Skipping Stones is an award-winning magazine for multicultural education and nature appreciation, founded by Y member Arun Toke in Lane County. A typical issue of Skipping Stones includes poems, stories, articles, artwork and photos from a region of the world, an ecosystem and/or a culture.Skipping Stones is an international magazine, which celebrates ecological and cultural diversity, and facilitates a meaningful exchange of ideas and experiences. Readers and contributors of Skipping Stones, ages 8 to 17, and their educators, hail from diverse cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds.

Their most recent issue featured winners of the 2022 Youth Awards, the annual Asian Celebration Haiku/Tanka Contest, as well as a national creative writing contest for fifth graders (organized by the American Immigration Council) on the theme of America, the nation of Immigrants, and their 2022 recommendations of multicultural and nature books for all ages.

Skipping Stones invites you to participate in this international forum, now beginning its 35th year, with your submissions, subscriptions, suggestions, and support. Are you an educator—parent, teacher or a librarian? You might entice your students (or children) to send their best creations for our regular issues or annual awards. Make the magazine a showcase for your students’ creative work. Skipping Stones welcomes art and original writings in every language and from all ages.

They continue adding new online content to their website in addition to our current semiannual issues (spring and autumn). Visit their website often to check out the poems, stories, art, and essays.

As a tax-exempt, nonprofit, educational and charitable organization, Skipping Stones relies on donations from supporters and subscribers, as well as grants from foundations to continue our educational and charitable work. There are no commercial advertisements on our pages. Subscriptions are $20 for individuals (one-copy subscription) and $35 for institutions (two copy subscription).
