Miles in Motion Challenge
Move more. Connect more. Reach new goals.
Brought to you by your Y, City of Eugene Rec, Willamalane and River Road Park Recreation District
What started as our popular 100-Mile Aqua Challenge, is growing into something even bigger in 2027. Whether you love swimming, walking, running, cycling, or working toward a goal with friends and family, this year-long community challenge is designed to help you stay active, build healthy habits and celebrate every mile along the way! No matter your age, fitness level, or experience, there's a place for you. Every step, stroke and ride counts. Track your miles at the YMCA, at home, outdoors, while traveling, or anywhere your journey takes you.
Registration for the 2027 challenge opens December 1, 2026, and remains open through January 31, 2027.
Participants can choose from five challenge options:
| Challenge | Description | Goal |
| Swim | Inspired by our long-running100-Mile Aqua Challenge, the swim option invites participants to work toward 100 miles throughout the year. Log your distance wherever you swim, from YMCA pools to neighborhood, lake or vacation swims. | 100 miles - Approximately 2 miles per week |
| Walk | Explore local parks, river paths, neighborhoods and trails while building a consistent walking routine. Every mile brings you closer to your goal. | 365 miles - Approximately 1 mile per day |
| Run | From seasoned runners to first-time 5k participants, this option celebrates Eugene's rich running culture and encourages participants to challenge themselves one mile at a time. | 500 miles - Approximately 1.4 miles per day |
| Ride | Whether you're commuting, taking a scenic weekend ride, exploring local trails, or cycling indoors, every mile counts toward your annual goal. | 1,000 miles - Approximately 19 miles per week |
| Group Tri | Movement is more fun together. Gather family members, friends, coworkers, or neighbors and combine your miles across multiple activities to work toward a shared team goal. | 1,500 miles - Shared across a team of 2-6 participants |
