PacificSource Health Plans Partners With Eugene Family YMCA For Bold Vision Of The Future

The $200,000 gift will help build the new Y, expand youth development and provide financial assistance.

Eugene, Ore., June 16, 2020 -  The Eugene Family YMCA is honored to partner with PacificSource Health Plans to create a bold vision for the future of Lane County residents.

PacificSource has made a $200,000 commitment to support the new YMCA, expansion of youth development programs and financial assistance for families and individuals.

"PacificSource's gift propels our Y toward an incredible future where all community members can seek health and wellness at a state-of-the-art facility; all families can find affordable, safe and engaging child care; and all individuals can receive the financial assistance they need for basic services," said Eugene Family YMCA CEO Brian Steffen. "We greatly value PacificSource's vision and commitment."

PacificSource, a non-for-profit community health plan, designated $100,000 toward the new Y's Community Room and Teaching Kitchen, which will be named after PacificSource.

"We are honored to support the Eugene Family YMCA and the incredibly valuable work they do to support youth and families in our local community," said Ken Provencher, president and CEO of PacificSource.

The future Y Community Room and Teaching Kitchen is a 1,500-square-foot space that will accommodate community-building activities and events among members and community organizations and nutrition education for families and their children. Programming in the teaching kitchen will empower individuals and families with the skills, knowledge, and confidence to make healthy, affordable meals --- supporting healthier eating habits in our community.

Another $100,000 will be used to support programs specifically for youth as well as the YMCA's financial assistance services to ensure that financial constraints are not a barrier to access the Y.

"We are incredibly fortunate to have such a visionary partner in PacificSource," said Danielle Uhlhorn, Chief Development Officer for the Eugene Family YMCA. "PacificSource's naming of the Community Room and Teaching Kitchen is fitting for such a forward-thinking organization, whose mission aligns with the Y's."

The Eugene Family YMCA's new 70,000-square-foot facility will be built on the corner of Hilyard Street and 24th Avenue. It is a fully ADA-accessible, flexible facility that includes a multi-generational activity center for academic tutoring and wellness classes; a teaching kitchen for families to gain nutritional knowledge; an expanded aquatics center to teach youth safety skills and support rehabilitation; and an expanded child care area.
