Join us for our Fall 2025 three-month series, sharing evidence-based information for improving our physical and mental health through the six pillars of lifestyle medicine. Each of the Sunday afternoon presentations will include a cooking demonstration with samples for all and time for Q&A. At the end of each session, participants will receive 6-8 recipes to try at home! All sessions will take place in the Kalapuya Community Room and the Camas Teaching Kitchen.

Class 1: Sunday, Sept. 28
Time: 2 to 4 p.m.
Presenter: Pyschologist Pam Birrell, PhD, (left) | Heather Landale, chef, (right)
Topic: Vitality for the Mind and Soul: Positive Social Connection, Stress Management and Restorative Sleep
Pam Birrel is a PhD psychologist and was previously a professor in the Psychology Department at the University of Oregon for several years. She is passionate about the healing effects of whole food plant-based nutrition on mental health and the nervous system. She also focuses on three additional pillars of lifestyle medicine - restorative sleep, stress management, and positive social connection, and how all have the ability to promote mental and physical health. In her work as a psychotherapist, Pam is very aware of the importance of connections, with the self, with others, and with our natural world.
Following Pam's presentation, the talented chef and owner of The Joyful Vegan, Heather Landale, will perform a "boost your nervous system" cooking demonstration with samples for all! Heather's healthy dishes, made to nourish and replenish, regularly receive rave reviews, even from the most devoted omnivores. Q&A time included!

Topic: Take Health to Heart: Lifestyle Medicine and Heart Disease
Kristin Linzmeyer MD FACC has board certifications in general cardiology and lifestyle medicine. While pursuing a masters in public health degree in 2016, she became more interested in the impact of public health measures and lifestyle choices and habits in preventing and reversing disease. This led to the discovery of Lifestyle Medicine as a subspecialty to enhance and improve her ongoing work in cardiovascular medicine. She currently is working at Oregon Heart and Vascular Institute at Riverbend Hospital developing a preventive cardiology clinic where she can use her skills and knowledge about lifestyle choices to help patients treat and potentially reverse their cardiovascular risk factors. Kristin will discuss lifestyle prescriptions that encourage whole food plant-based nutrition, physical activity, good sleep hygiene, healthy stress management, avoidance of toxic substances, and the importance of social connections. Her goal is to empower people to make healthy choices that support wellness and longevity.
Following Kristin's presentation, there will be a heart-healthy cooking demonstration with samples for all by chef Tamera Wilhite. Tamera is a talented chef who received her training though the Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine's "Food for Life" award-winning nutrition education and cooking class program. Q&A time included!

Topic: Kickstart Your Health: The Power On Your Plate
Tamera Wilhite is a talented and engaging PCRM Food for Life Instructor. Her down to earth and inviting demeanor makes her a highly rated teacher. She was trained at the Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine headquarters in Washington DC. Her presentation will include a short lecture, full cooking demonstration and sharing of the food prepared. Her class is intended to introduce fast and easy ways to prepare grains, legumes, and vegetables and increase overall plant intake. She will also provide resources for ongoing support. There will of course be time for Q & A! Come with your appetite – you are in for a real treat!
