WORKSHOPS


Our specialty fitness and wellness workshops offer the perfect environment to delve deeper into your practice, beyond what an hour-long class can provide. These boutique experiences cater to both seasoned practitioners and newcomers, allowing everyone to explore and discover new passions. Workshops are open to both Y members and community members.

EDGU is a spinal movement maintenance practice and guided meditation. Similar to Tai Chi, EDGU is accessible for all levels. The practice can be done seated or standing. It works on the spine and discs while moving the arms and shoulders through all possible actions.

Yoga for Every Body: Joint Friendly Paths to Full Expression yoga students in downward dog

Take care of your joints. Deepen your alignment. Discover your most open, authentic expression in each pose. In this 90-minute workshop, we'll begin with gentle, joint-friendly yoga warm-ups to help you move with greater ease and comfort—especially through the wrists, shoulders, hips and knees. Then we'll explore several foundational yoga poses, breaking each one down with time to experiment, modify and discover what alignment and shape feel best for your body. You'll learn how to:

  • Safely warm up and support your joints through mindful movement
  • Explore foundational poses like Downward Dog and Stepping-through, Warrior II, Child's Pose and Triangle Pose
  • Use props and accessible variations to find your most open and expressive version of each posture
  • Align from the inside out—building strength, freedom and confidence in your own way
  • Adapt your practice for comfort, sustainability and personal empowerment

This workshop is ideal for anyone wanting to move safely, feel more at home in their practice, or learn how to modify poses without losing their depth or beauty. Hands-on support will be provided, if asked for.

Learn self-care techniques to release restrictions in the fascia—the connective tissue network that surrounds every muscle, organ, bone, blood vessel and nerve fiber in your body. We will use a soft foam roller and soft balls to rehydrate stuck areas from head to toe. Come join us to find relaxation, reduced muscle tension and increased range of motion!

SPECIALTY FITNESS SERIES CLASSES


Our Specialty Fitness Series Classes are unique opportunities to explore health and wellness in small group settings. Series classes include multiple weekly sessions, allowing you to discover new practices, build strength and connect with yourself and your community.

Run to Stay Warm 5k training with Run Hub man running on the Amazon Park trail

This 12-week training program is geared towards beginning runners and those new to running. Certified coaches will provide guidance and suggestions for weekly training as we build toward running the EWEB Run to Stay Warm 5K! Participants can expect to start with walking and jogging and build toward continuously running for at least 5 km. We will meet weekly to run with the occasional guest speaker. Saturday time commitment will be from 8:30 to 9:30 or 9:45 a.m. but may end closer to 10:00 a.m. on days that include guest speakers. The YMCA will be the primary practice location, but local parks and trails will also be utilized. Participants will receive a free T-shirt, complimentary socks and a discount at Run Hub for the duration of the training program!

  • TIME: Start at 8:30 a.m., finish between 9:30 and 10 a.m.

Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR)Brant Rogers

Led by Brant Rogers, MBSR is an 8-week training based on the personal practices of mindfulness, progressive relaxation, contemplative presence, letting go of reactivity, mindful movement (yoga, etc.) and enhancing emotional intelligence. These are integrated into daily life via home practice to help folks cope with stress and improve well-being. Weekly in-person classes and excellent learning materials will guide participants through the course. Classroom learning and practice will include body scan meditation, sitting meditation, walking meditation, mindful breathing practice, interpersonal learning, mindful eating, gentle mindful movement/yoga appropriate to your personal physical limitations, and more!

Playful Partner Yoga

Dive into partner yoga! Explore supportive postures, mindful connection and the joy of shared movement in pairs and groups. No prior partner yoga experience needed.

We’ll cultivate trust and encouragement and support one another while sparking new connections and deepening existing friendships and family bonds. Come solo, with a partner or as a group—our instructors will ensure everyone has a match.

Two experienced instructors will guide you through a range of styles, from calm and gentle to lively and dynamic, adapting to each person’s abilities.

In this Pelvic Floor Health Workshop Series, we will focus on pelvic health fundamentals, relaxation and strength-building techniques to alleviate pain, gain control and enhance your overall well-being.

Part 1: Pelvic Floor Fundamentals - Lay a Solid Foundation for Optimal Health
In this workshop, we will dive deep into understanding the importance of a healthy pelvic floor. We will educate you on the anatomy and functions of the pelvic floor, empowering you with knowledge that is fundamental to your well-being. You will learn proven techniques for proper posture, breath control, and body alignment, ensuring a strong and supportive pelvic floor foundation.

Part 2: Relaxation Techniques - Find Harmony and Release Stress from Within
Stress and tension can wreak havoc on our body, especially the pelvic floor. In this second phase of our workshop, we will guide you through a series of relaxation techniques specifically designed to alleviate pain and improve overall strength. Explore the transformative power of mindfulness, meditation, and gentle stretching exercises that will release tensions and promote relaxation in your pelvic area.

Part 3: Building Strength - Unlock Your Inner Power
Harness your inner strength and reach new heights of vitality and resilience with our third and final workshop. We will introduce you to a variety of safe and effective exercises that specifically target and strengthen the pelvic floor muscles. Through specialized techniques, you will gradually develop a solid core foundation, gaining improved control and stability.

Join a small group ready to get it, get it done and get going! This is a 30-minute, no-nonsense circuit workout led by one of our certified Personal Trainers. In this workout, functional training meets full-body strength and bursts of cardio. The small size means you get more attention while still feeling motivated by working as a group. Currently only being offered for Y members.

Aerial Yoga Play combines all the benefits of traditional yoga—flexibility, strength and balance with the unique conditioning for an exhilarating new way of approaching yoga. Sculpt your body in the air using our special yoga swings, as you tone muscles, find balance and increase flexibility. All levels welcome.
